MEMBERS' NEWSLETTERS

NEWSLETTER NO.1

Dear Member,

Your club:
This and subsequent newsletters are designed to keep you in touch with your club and its activities. It is your club only because of your interest and support. It doesn't function by magic. At the AGM you elected individuals to organise and run your club but your enthusiasm, involvement and support will still be needed to make the club a successful organisation.

Your committee:
Your committee, whose members are myself (President), Mike Shakspeare (Treasurer), Ann Clark, Lesley Clarke, Chris Fowler, Jean Inglis, Dave Lyon, Graham Stirling, Calum Swinton and Gordon Andrews (co-opted member) met for the first time this week and discussed how to manage without a designated Secretary or Competition Secretary. As a result pieces of the secretarial responsibilities were taken on by individual members of the committee. In view of there being no Competition Secretary it was agreed that the club would have to withdraw temporarily from external competitions apart from inter-clubs. Once again Committee members would fulfil parts of the Competition Secretary's responsibilities as they were able.

Your Committee also discussed the syllabus for next year. There was a general wish to enhance the teaching of beginners in the art of photography and offer to help improve the image making abilities of all members. To achieve this aim more members' nights will be planned with short lectures, small group discussion and hands on experimentation.

More details will follow in future newsletters but your committee will welcome any ideas and suggestions for inclusion in the syllabus for this and future years.

Your choice:
Even though your club does not meet formally over the summer period I hope that you will make the best of the long days. Liz Wheelans has helpfully circulated a list of local events taking place during the summer which will have photographic possibilities. Why not start with the Second World War Days at East Fortune Airfield on 1st & 2nd of May? Your committee plan to organise one or two outings during the summer as well.

The camera club exhibition in St Mary's Church as part of the Haddington Festival is an opportunity to display your work as well as support your club because we shall be seeking your assistance in 'minding' the display from 29th May to 6th June.

Or on a dreich day you might want to make use of the club computer in the darkroom at Poldrate.

It's your choice. I look forward to seeing the results.

Michael
