MEMBERS' NEWSLETTERS

NEWSLETTER NO. 2

Dear Member,

Showing your work:

Most of us are shy about exhibiting our pictures. Perhaps we don't think that they are good enough or maybe we fear criticism. We should try to overcome holding back. We are never going to know about our mistakes or what improvements we could make unless we submit our work for scrutiny.
The Camera Club's display in St Mary's Church, as part of the Haddington Festival might be a good place for you to start. Our exhibition is not all about excellence. It's also about inclusion. We select at least 1 print from every member who submits pictures. We have some images left over from last year's competitions but you might wish to consider providing new work. Committee members will be happy to receive your prints preferably before the display hanging day on Friday May 28th.
Remember too that our website has a facility to show members' digital images. Lesley Clarke will be pleased to receive your files for uploading. See the 'Photo Tips' page, 'Preparing images for club website galleries' section, for details. Email images to Lesley at lesleyclarkephotos@gmail.com

Hosting the club's work:

We like to provide hosts for our display in St Mary's Church. This provides an opportunity for members to interact with visitors to the exhibition, to seek their views on the images and to provide information on what the club offers. I hope you will give some of your time to promote the club in this way. Coming to you with this newsletter is a rota chart. Just let me know which slots you would like to fill. Email me at michael.thomson2@virgin.net or phone me on 01620 843310.

Improving your work:

As I mentioned in Newsletter No.1, your committee is keen to provide opportunities for members to improve their image-making skills. Graham Stirling, he of the striking HDR images, has offered to take small groups of members on his evening outings to the local coastline. The timing of these outings depends on Graham's availability, tides and weather so he suggests that those wishing to take up his offer indicate their interest by e-mailing him at grahamstirling@hotmail.co.uk He will contact you as and when he can arrange a trip.
Remember clambering around rocky beaches at the extremes of the day does demand a certain amount of mobility and sensible clothing but I' m sure that the resulting images will prove the effort worthwhile.
