MEMBERS' NEWSLETTERS
NEWSLETTER No. 3
24/05/10
Dear Member,Bright light at last:
Suddenly summer is here and that brings the light. Photography is all about light and the subtle ways it illuminates our world. I hope you are getting some images that you are pleased with and will want to share with other club members. I'm sure you will remember that the more emotive or moody images are best obtained at the ends of the day when the light is less direct. Dawns require getting out of bed early but evenings may be more manageable. Either way East Lothian provides lots of photographic possibilities for exploring this summer light.
Our exhibition in St Mary's Church, Haddington:
The Camera Club's display in St Mary's Church, as part of the Haddington Festival will be mounted on Friday of this week. If you haven't offered prints to be included now is the time to do so. We aim to display images from as many members as possible so don't be disappointed if only some of your submitted prints are put up. As I said in the last newsletter our exhibition is not all about excellence. It's also about inclusion.
I hope that you will want to participate not only in providing pictures but in hosting our display. There are still plenty of gaps in the hosting rota, an up-to-date version of which will come with this newsletter.
Nature images:
Those of you who are in to nature photography might like to consider entering a new competition organised by the Scottish Nature Photography Awards. There are various categories and some good prizes.
All the details are at www.scottishnaturephotographyawards.com
Your security:
A new system of signing in to Poldrate has been started. This is for your security so that in the event of a fire or other disaster the emergency services will know who is in the building. You will find a ledger just inside the main door in which you should record your name and time of coming and going. This will be particularly important if you are working hidden away in the darkroom. Entering by the back door does not excuse you from signing in.
This only applies to those who wish to use the building outside of the regular Tuesday meetings of the Club. For our winter season meetings one officer of the club will be responsible for making sure that everyone has left the building before signing out.
