Dear Member,

Monochrome
There were many good images in the monochrome competition, the judging for which was held last Tuesday.

The judge, Neil Scott emphasized the importance of tonal range, lack of burnt out white and avoidance of too much dark space. The best scoring images had these attributes and often told a story or were unusual in the photographer's approach to the subject material. We can all learn something from seeing these images even if we don't like the scores given to our own contributions!

A print bank
Whilst you are welcome to retrieve your prints after a competition I tend to hang on to them as a means of having a ready source of images for use in exhibitions and external competitions. We have booked space for at least three exhibitions in the summer two of which may overlap. A 'print bank' saves time in soliciting images from members in times of need but just like a bank you are perfectly entitled to 'withdraw' your work at any time.

Members' night again
At the members night next Tuesday we are looking at the subject of photographing in public places. You will know that this has been a contentious issue recently. George Simpson will be relating his experiences with the title 'Beware where you point your camera' and there will be contributions from other members including a police view. This is an issue which should be approached responsibly and with common sense by photographers and those in authority alike.

The Tully-Jackson cup
I hope some of you are beginning to plan your submissions for the competition for our AV trophy the handing in night for which is in just over two weeks. Jack has kindly pointed out a good example of what can be achieved on YouTube. Try this link to get one idea for telling a story or getting a message across.

Remember too that there is a copy of Pro Show Gold on the Club laptop for members to use. Should anyone need help with using the programme just ask.
